Sherry Woodard, CPDT-KA, Executive Director, Partners for People, a 501c3, has more than 20 years’ experience in animal training, behavior and care, and is nationally known as an expert in her field. She develops resources, provides consulting services, leads workshops and speaks nationwide to promote animal welfare issues. Since 2009, Sherry has personally screened, selected, trained and placed over 100 dogs for various careers.

Founder, Canines with Careers, BFAS; 2009-2019
Developed program for rescue groups, dog trainers, and shelters around the country to train and place qualified shelter dogs as career dogs. To date, more than 4,000 dogs have been placed with law enforcement officers and professional dog handlers as part of detection dog, therapy, and crisis response teams, and with individuals suffering from a variety of disabilities as service and support dogs.
Secured $400,000 in grant funding to fully support salary and operating costs.
Animal Behavior Consultant, BFAS; 2003-2019
Represent BFAS throughout the country in speaking engagements, videos, TV/radio, online and via hands-on consultations and workshops with individuals, shelters, and non-profit organizations across the country (See Appendix).
Dogtown Manager, BFAS; 1997-2003
Oversaw daily care and medical needs of 600 dogs (annually) and 70 staff; responsible for the intake of new dogs to the Sanctuary; placed dogs into the appropriate social groups; ran dog adoption and foster care programs; coordinated student and volunteer group visits.
Contributed to design of new buildings and exercise areas in Dogtown that have provided stimulating and comfortable environments for thousands of dogs over the years.
Additional Experience: 1997-present
I have conducted nationwide shelter assessments to aid staff and volunteers in providing a better physical environment for the animals, taught them about animal body language, showed them how to safely integrate playgroups, and provided them with force-free, trust-building, science-based tools and techniques to teach basic skills and behavior modification to increase the likelihood of forever homes.
I have been providing guidance and assistance at rescue situations involving hoarding, puppy mill dogs and dogfighting, and have created, coordinated and facilitated animal transports throughout the country.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE EXPERIENCE
Hurricane Katrina; Tylertown, MS, and New Orleans, LA; Aug 2005 – Mar 2006
On-the-ground leadership experience in disaster response, and management of emergency relief project. I spent eight months in Tylertown, MS, helping with rescue, assessment and socialization of dogs, supervising staff and volunteers, and working with all types of animals, including exotics.
Cat Hoarding Case, Pahrump, NV; Jul – Dec 2007
Managed on-site rescue of more than 800 cats living in horrible conditions in the desert. Developed a process and trained volunteers to socialize these traumatized cats for placement into homes.
